Challenge

Give Life Alberta needed to explain something genuinely hard — the pediatric liver transplant journey — to an audience where clarity, tone, and pacing matter more than almost anywhere else: kids. A prior animated series for adult transplant recipients had already proven video could replace dense, brochure-heavy information. The challenge now was translating that same clarity for children, without talking down to them or overwhelming them at one of the hardest moments in their family's life.

Approach

A character was built specifically for this — Addy — to carry a child viewer through each phase of the transplant journey: what a liver transplant is, where livers come from, the waitlist, preparing for surgery, the operation itself, and life after. Each of the seven videos stays short and singular in focus, one phase per video, paired with custom animation and voiceover built for a young audience's attention span and emotional needs.

Result

The series is now a standing tool for transplant coordinators and medical staff at Give Life Alberta, replacing repeated one-on-one explanations with a resource families can revisit at their own pace. It follows an earlier adult-focused series from the same partnership, extending a proven approach — video over brochures — to pediatric care.
